10 Healthy Ways to Naturally Burn Belly Fat

holistic health & nutrition Jan 18, 2016

At this age and time there is almost no single soul that fancies having a bulging belly: unless they are pregnant of course. All of us want flat tummies. I mean, who wants a tummy that they will feel like tucking into their skirts or trousers whenever they step out of the house? I bet there is no one. Belly fat is not only unflattering, it is also a threat to good health. Did you know that this excess weight can lead to diabetes?

This is a guest post by Kathleen Brown, a health and beauty writer. We hope that you find it enjoyable and informative.

Whatever you motivation is, you will need to come up with a healthy plan that will help eradicate those love handles and help you to naturally burn belly fat. You can achieve that flat belly through:

1. Regular exercise

When all is said and done, exercise still remains a vital input in any healthy lifestyle. Exercising helps burn the excess calories that have been stored as fat around your waist. The fat around your belly is no exception. Regular exercise will ensure that all that fat is converted in to energy that your body will need to sustain you as you exercise. Furthermore, the accumulation of the fat around your waist is mainly as a result of you eating and remaining immobile for a longtime. At this stage you can embark on both high and low impact exercises depending on your preferences. You can walk, jog, hike or swim. Aerobics will also produce excellent results. These routines should be carried out regularly and with utmost patience because just like Rome wasn’t built in a day, this will also take time.

2. Eat healthy foods

You may exercise for a million years and never shed that weight if you do not watch what you eat. Exercising and later gobbling a whole bowl of ice cream to wash down an extra-large plate of fries won’t help. Exercise must be coupled with healthy food. Avoid consuming processed and packaged foods. Eat whole foods like quality protein and plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits. Remember to couple this with lots of water.

3. Gulp smoothies

Smoothies can be described as a smooth or thick beverage derived from blending a number fruits, vegetables and other superfoods together, with fibre included. An example of a smoothie is apples, mangoes, ginger and oranges blended together, and if you’re adventurous, you could add some raw seeds, nut milk or spirulina. When you eat this resulting fibre-rich blend, you’ll be nourished and feel fuller, and your urge to overeat will be eliminated. If you don’t overeat, fats will not be stored therefore the burnt fats will not be replaced hence the fat will not accumulate afresh.

4. Drinking lemon water

If you are somewhat health conscious, chances are you have heard about detoxing. This is the cleaning of your system to rid it off all toxins. Lemon water helps detoxify the liver thus enhancing metabolism. When the liver is functioning properly the metabolic system functions at its optimal level, and is therefore more efficient at burning fat. Each morning, have a glass of warm water and squeeze a fresh lemon into it. This mixture, of water and the fresh lemon juice, should be taken at least half an hour before anything else is eaten.

5. Incorporating spice into your diet

Rumor has it that the reason most Indians are able to remain remarkably slim throughout their lives is because their meals are almost always laced with chili or other hot peppers. Although there are certainly other factors that may contribute, this could be a piece of the puzzle. The thing with chili pepper is that it’s a thermogenic food, which means that it warms the body and accelerates the metabolic system. When the metabolic rate is increased, more fat is being converted into energy hence none is being stored. This sums up in the slashing of that fat around your waist.

6. Fish or fish oil intake

Apart from being a rich source of protein, fish also helps the body breakdown fat. This means that when you eat fish or take fish oil, your body is more efficiently able to breakdown the fat that has been stored around your belly. You can eat a clean source of oily, cold-water fish twice a week if possible. However, if you are unable to get a supply of fish, you can consider taking a spoonful of fish oil on a daily basis.

7. Avoid stress

According to research, stress is one of the major causes of weight gain. People who are chronically stressed out tend to overeat, over produce cortisol (“stress hormone” that prevents fat loss) and at most times, are too lethargic to exercise. If you are working on shedding some pounds off, try to avoid stress, or learn at least incorporate some stress management techniques in your life, such as yoga and meditation. This will help ensure you remain rejuvenated enough to work out while still ensuring you do not stock more calories by overeating.

8. Sip ginger tea and eat ginger

When you sip on a warm cup of ginger tea, your body temperature rises, leading to stored fats being burnt due to thermogenesis (accelerated metabolism). Ginger tea is made by adding freshly cut or dried ginger into boiling water and letting it steep for at least 10 minutes. You can add a slice of lemon and raw honey for added benefits and taste. You can consume your tea three times per day, on an empty stomach. Adding some whole (shredded) ginger herb into your food, like in Thai dishes, oatmeal or muffins, is also very helpful.

9. Incorporate garlic into your diet

Along with its amazing immune boosting benefits and great savory taste, garlic can prevent your body from storing extra fat. It does this by ensuring that no pre-fat cells are converted into fat cells. Garlic can be added to all sorts of foods like rice dishes, soups and salads. It can be eaten raw to increase its efficiency.

10. Eat a balanced diet

When you incorporate a variety of whole natural foods into your diet, you are ensuring your body gets all the nutrients it needs to be healthy. A healthy body with organs that function efficiently can properly use fat as energy and is less likely to store it. You are also not as prone to overeating due to incontrollable cravings.
